Meet Your Match: How to Build the Perfect Bra and Underwear Set

I love a matching bra and underwear moment.

My personal life could be in shambles, hanging by a thread—but the moment I slip into a matching bra-and-underwear-combo, a feeling of having everything totally and utterly “together” overcomes me.

It doesn't matter if I woke up in last night's mascara or if I'm being afflicted by PMS-induced bloating. It doesn't even matter if I throw a thread-bare band t-shirt over the pristine little underwear set I'm rocking; it's just that powerful.

Also, hear me out when I say: matching lingerie sets aren't all lace and “special occasions” only. They're actually often the best way to add a little sparkle to the otherwise mundane. Nevermind whether you have a sexy date night planned or are eating ice cream from the tub while you marathon reality television—therein lies the beauty of matching sets, you'll feel put together no matter what.

So, if your top drawer could use a bra and underwear set (or two) that actually gets day-to-day use, you're in good hands. But I do have some key considerations you should keep in mind when it comes to picking out bra and panty sets that will instantly elevate your everyday rotation.

Pick a Palette

What shades and hues dominate your top drawer? What colors make you feel most “you”? Do you like to mix and match or keep things monochromatic? These are fun musings, yes, but also essential to curating a matching set that will complement your current collection.

Finding a color palette to play within can open up your top drawer, allowing you to play around with different pastelsneutrals, or bold colorways that can all be effortlessly paired together. My advice? Take stock of what you have and find a complementary palette to work within. That means you'll never be chasing down the matching bra to your underwear on laundry day—you'll just have an array of intimates that seamlessly work together to make you feel fabulous.

Consider Coverage

This applies to both bras and panties, whether you swear by thongs or prefer a cleavage-baring cup. It can be easy to get caught up in how your bra and underwear look, rather than how they feel. Consider the latter when curating the perfect pairing, not just based on how your bra and panty sets match, but how they function as separate parts with their own requisites.

For instance, you might be in search of a fuller-cup—like the WingWoman Contour Bra—that gently shapes and eliminates any sideboob, but a cheekier fit on the underwear side of things. If you're looking for less coverage, on the other hand, the Mesh Deep V Bra is sheer softness that layers well with low cut tops. It also pairs perfectly with a pair of core-hugging high rise undies for those who want to blend and balance different coverage-levels.

But what fun is a matching set if you can't wear it on your period? With that in mind, give some thought to what kind of period coverage you want, too. There's a pair of period underwear for everything, from light spotting to everyday discharge to the heaviest of period days. Take your pick from a range of light-to-heavy absorption levels for a matching set you can truly live in.

Find the Right Support

While booty support is important, it's bust support that's my primary concern here. When it comes to bras, there are simply more variables to consider—like, will the straps dig into my shoulders? Is it supportive enough to withstand the bouncy castle at my two-year-old's birthday party? Am I going to want to rip it off the moment I get home from work?

Solid support is a matter of bra-style, but also about finding the right fit. If you're not sure about your size, I seriously recommend getting fitted. Keep in mind, our bodies (and boobs!) are constantly in flux and your sizing may have changed since your last fitting. It also turns out, according to studies, 80% of women are wearing the wrong bra size. Let's fix that.

I love a frill, but function is important, too. So, do think about what you need out of your bra. If you're running from the office to pilates, the Revolution V-Neck Bra is both surprisingly supportive and barely-there for a heaven-like feel. For support that's easy to pull on and off, make friends with the Revolution Adjustable Pullover Bra. If low-support, high-aesthetic is what you're after, opt for the Gossamer Lace Bra with its soft cups and plunging neckline.

Lean Into Your Lifestyle

When I say your intimates should fit you, and not the other way around, I also mean they should fit your lifestyle. Finding the right size and support level are important, but so are finding fabrics and silhouettes that will move with you throughout your day-to-day life.

Learn from my mistakes and avoid projecting an idealized version of yourself onto your bra and underwear purchases. Take it from me when I say this is how you end up with a top drawer graveyard of intimates that are beautiful but rarely (if ever) worn. Instead, do yourself the favor of keeping it real and opting for underwear styles that you'll be excited to reach for every morning.

Cultivate an Aesthetic

You've likely worked to cultivate a sense of personal style when it comes to your wardrobe, so why would your underwear be any different? What I appreciate most about this is that how you express yourself under your clothes can be entirely different from your outward-appearing sartorial senses. Take this as an opportunity to discover, explore, and experiment with your styling sensibilities.

Onlookers might think you look cool and sophisticated, but you'll be the only one who knows your nipple piercing is delicately peering out of your lilac-hued mesh bra. Think of it as a personal little secret—a way to celebrate what feels good to you, whether anyone else knows it or not. Who knew underwear could be such a site of creativity?

Find Your Power Pairing

Matching sets are all about creating a foundation that feels intentional. Whether it's a sleek monochromatic look or a playful mix of textures and fabrics, they're the easiest way to bring cohesion to your everyday. And with sizes ranging from XS to XXXXL and 28A to 48H, there's truly something for every body.

Because let's face it: when your bra and underwear match, the rest of life feels just a little more manageable.
