What Does it Mean to Create a Bra for the Healing Body?

If you know Knix, you know we have a bra for just about everything. Everyday wireless bras that will take you from office to low-impact workout? We’ve got you covered in spades. Sports bras that will hold you in place during the most rigorous of movement sessions? We give high-tech sports brands a run for their money.

Most recently, we collaborated with physical trauma survivors on an entirely different kind of bra — one that's designed with recovery and accessibility in mind. Whether you’ve undergone a mastectomy or gender affirming top surgery, the Ultra Soft Front Closure Bra was created to provide gentle support for the mending body.

Our long term collaborator and dear friend, Colleen Strong, was pivotal to the creation of this special garment. We first had the pleasure of working with the tattooed, Harley-riding grandma (and all around bad-ass) during our Age Doesn’t Matter campaign.

In the time since, she’s provided valuable insights into what a bra designed for healing should look and feel like. The true portrait of resilience, Colleen’s own breast cancer recovery journey has involved several surgeries, including reconstructive breast surgery and a mastectomy.

After complications with her implants, she opted to go flat on one side — embellishing her chest with a regenerative mastectomy tattoo. It’s an experience she describes as being vital to her recovery, allowing her to reclaim her changed body.

Bras, too, were essential to this journey — though she often struggled to find bras that met a cross-section of varying needs: comfort, style, functionality, and cost efficiency. Having experimented with prosthetics, it was also key the bra be prosthetic-friendly.

After years of careful research and wear-testing, the Ultra Soft Front Closure Bra is finally ready to assume its rightful place among our lineup of bras. After all, our bras are designed to support women and folks with breasts during every phase of life — be it postpartum or post-surgery.

The culmination is a delicate garment, made with naturally breathable rayon from bamboo for gentle, barely-there support and protection that won’t irritate scars and stitches. Mobility is also at the center of its design, hence the easy on-and-off front closure.

The bra also comfortably holds breast prosthetics in place, thanks to its removable cups and cup openings. Wherever you are in your healing journey, this bra was created just for you.
