Your Favorite Fictional Women—and the Bras We Think They Would Wear

It's a truth universally acknowledged, that a person in possession of breasts, must be in want of a brassiere… or something like that.

But where does one even start when shopping for the ‘right’ bra? It’s not like we were given a manual on chest support and, up until a few years ago, the golden standard was something that (likely) looked pretty and (very likely) felt like a medieval torture device.

Nowadays, the bra market is brimming with options: wireless, push-up, sports, pullover, bandeau, strapless, bustier, and ARE YOU OVERWHELMED YET?

Fear not! We’re here to help!

We’ve called upon some fictional badasses to help us in our quest. When these women aren’t fighting the forces of evil, disrupting the patriarchy, or conquering hearts, they’re personifying the very best qualities of our Knix bras. Consider this your Coles Notes and get reading.

The WingWoman Contour Bra – Elle Woods

For our best-selling bra, we needed someone strong, supportive, confident, and sexy. “What, like it’s hard?” Nobody encapsulates the spirit of the WingWoman more than Delta Nu sorority president-turned Harvard Law student, Elle Woods.

She stays true to herself and never compromises her values, especially when it comes to her femininity. Why be a Jackie or a Marilyn when you can be both? Elle is the perfect reminder that you should never judge a pink and fuzzy book by its cover. Now go forth and bend and snap the house down.

Honorable Mentions: Princess Leia, Mary Poppins, Donna Meagle, Carrie Bradshaw

The Evolution Bra – Dorothy Gale

“Comfy and light and reversible! Oh my!” For the Evolution Bra that started it all, we’re picking the girl who dared to dream in technicolour. Dorothy pushes boundaries (whether in Oz or Kansas) and inspires others to see the strength in their own differences.

She’s a fierce friend who will stand up (in fabulous shoes, no less) for what she believes in, even if it means facing off against a bad witch or two. There's something about Dorothy that just feels like being home, and perhaps that's why we still love her after all this time.

Honorable Mentions: Viola/Cesario, Nancy Drew

The Revolution Bra – Olivia Pope

Like the Revolution Bra we couldn’t help but associate her with, Olivia Pope sums it up best, “Mediocrity is not an option for me.”

Versatile, modern, efficient, smooth, and a well-known ‘fixer,’ Olivia can pretty much do it all while looking good and spouting off iconic lines. She’s the first person you go to in a crisis and the last to put out any remaining fires.

Whether battling work deadlines, family drama, or your own romantic feelings towards a specific political figure, Olivia (like the Revolution) would totally have you covered.

Honorable Mentions: Ripley, Hermione Granger

The Lace Deep-V Bralette – Daisy Buchanan

Gorgeous. Elegant. Sexy. Dainty. Add some lace for a hint of mystery and you’ve got the essence of Daisy Buchanan. Where one could find her beautiful and perfection-incarnate, another would say she is frivolous and shallow.

We’re only let into her world through others and, therefore, we’re only seeing what she allows to peek through. Her words paint the portrait of a wise and passionate woman who profoundly understands the world in which she lives. Whether you love her or hate her, you can’t deny that Daisy is a complex and stunning flapper queen.

Honorable Mentions: Scarlett O’Hara, Esmerelda, Regina George

The Catalyst Sports Bra – Hua Mulan

For our toughest and most durable bra, nobody could fit the bill better than the legend herself, Hua Mulan.

A true force to be reckoned with, Mulan steals her father’s place in the army by dressing like a man, fights hordes of enemy soldiers, and eventually declines a job offer from the emperor. We stan a queen who has the strength of a raging fire.

She is the OG epitome of ‘girl power’ and an enduring reminder that strength can come from within as well as without.

Honourable Mentions: Arya Stark, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Michonne Hawthorne

The LuxeLift Pullover Bra – Jo March

Just like the LuxeLift Pullover, Jo March has absolutely no desire to follow societal expectations. No hardware. No bells. No whistles. No problem.

Jo is stubborn and immovable, but she's also creative and open-minded. Much to the shock of society and (sometimes) her sisters, she thrills in being a tomboy and pushing the expectations of what women can do.

In doing so, she continues to show women what they can be. Like the protagonists in her stories, she isn’t held down by reality. Jo is as free-spirited and self-assured as they come.

Honorable Mentions: Lizzie Bennet, Christina Yang, Anne Shirley

So now that you know the major characters and the basic plot points, you can go out and ace the assignment.

Like the women who’ve inspired us throughout the decades, a good bra should lift you up in more ways than one. It should be the fearless ally that motivates you to live unapologetically free into the next chapter of your own story.
