How to Find the Best Bra Based on Your Breast Shape

Finding the perfect bra can, at times, feel mythical. Does it really exist, or is it just a fable?

Before you resign yourself to a lifetime of jagged underwires and back-bulge, consider finding the right bra like an art form — one that starts with figuring out your size. “There are a lot of people who are wearing the wrong size,” says Fitting Expert Alex. “The thing about bra sizing that’s important to realize is that there’s no industry standard really.”

Alex, whom we like to think of as the fairy godmother of bras, spends her days meeting virtually one-on-one with customers, guiding them through measurements to find their perfect fit, and making personalized recommendations. Like a glass slipper, fit is everything

Our A to H cup-sizing is designed to be as inclusive as possible. But, still, based on your breast shape, bust-to-band ratio, and rib cage width, some bras may be more conducive to your shape than others. That’s where Alex comes in to provide expert insights — here are her hot tips.

The Revolution Bra

We’re pretty excited about the newest bra to join our (already stellar) lineup: the Revolution Bra. “I think it’s gonna work really great for people who have a very full bust with a bit more of a teardrop shaped breast or a wider set bust,” says Alex. Though, she’s quick to add, “It’s going to be a really phenomenal option for everyone.”

Because new sizing has been introduced alongside the launch of the Revolution Bra, she anticipates it will serve a wider variety of people. That includes those who have a wider band size and smaller cup — and vice versa. Alex, who has a smaller rib cage and bigger cup, is “super looking forward to having the Revolution Bra.”

The WingWoman Bra

“The WingWoman is easily our most popular bra,” according to Alex. Between the classic shape and side coverage, it’s easy to see why it’s a fan favorite. If it’s your first foray into wireless bra territory, this is a great introduction to the wireless world.

Alex tends to recommend the WingWoman Bra to those who are “a bit more wide set.” The side coverage prevents spillage on bigger cup sizes for a smooth look. It encompasses the breast nicely and creates a smooth silhouette “all around the side of the body,” Alex tells me. As someone with a smaller ribcage, she also gives it her stamp of approval.

The LuxeLift Pullover Bra

“I find that anyone can wear the LuxeLift Pullover Bra because it comes in so many different sizes,” says Alex. Though, she notes, if you have a wide band-to-bust ratio that ranges from 8 to 10 inches, you may experience some spillage at the top.

Otherwise, this bra is the definition of “easy to wear” and will take you from WFH to workout class. The wide support band and thick straps shape beautifully and seamlessly. “It’s such a unique bra in the sense that it works in so many different ways,” says Alex.

The Evolution Bra

The Evolution Bra (the precursor to the Revolution Bra) is one Alex also recommends to a wide range of shapes and sizes. “I show it to fuller busted folks and people whose breasts sit in a more forward-facing position,” says Alex.

Her only caveat is that the lighter fabric may not be optimal for those who have different sized breasts or are looking for full nipple coverage — to which I respond “I feel like slightly visible nipples are having a moment right now, though.”

Beyond shape, it’s a bra Alex recommends based on lifestyle, as well. It’s a great option for those who have a varied lifestyle that involves an afternoon at the office followed by a low-impact workout. “It’s also a great item to travel with because it’s reversible,” she says.

The Good to Go Seamless Bra

We love a bra that lives up to its name — and when it comes to the Good to Go Seamless Bra, people tend to gravitate towards it for its immediate “like a glove” fit. While other bras in our lineup tend to mold to your shape with wear, this one “fits you perfectly right away,” according to Alex.

It’s a great everyday wear option that works for just about any breast shape. It’s also one Alex tends to recommend to those with larger busts. “I find that people with larger busts who prefer sleeping in some sort of bra love this one because it’s super comfy,” she says.

The Knixy Lace Deep-V Bralette

Folks with smaller busts who are in the market for a bralette that actually provides support may find a match in the Knixy Lace Deep-V Bralette. While those with larger cups may experience some spillage, those within an A to D cup range often find it provides the right amount of coverage and support.

The Knixy Lace Racerback Bralette

Who said bralettes are only for smaller cup sizes? The Knixy Lace Racerback Bralette is Alex’s go-to recommendation for D+ cup sizes who are in the market for a bralette. It’s also an option she tends to suggest to those who have a higher band-to-bust ratio. “The way the scoop neck works on the body with the racerback encompasses the bust nicely,” she says.

The Padded V-Neck Bra

Alex refers to the Padded V-Neck Bra as the love child of the WingWoman and LuxeLift Pullover bras. “It’s like that middle ground where you’re getting support around the body with a very seamless look,” she says. For breast shapes that need more front coverage (but still want a deep-v cut), this is an easy favorite.

The Good to Go High Neck Seamless Bra

One thing I love about the Good to Go High Neck Seamless Bra is that it’s an everyday bra that provides compression without feeling restrictive. It can be worn for low impact workouts — but also works just as well as a crop top.

Those with wide set breasts, or breasts that gravitate to the sides, will find that this bra envelops your bust and provides smoothing side and under-bust support. It’s a bra Alex finds works well for a range of sizes. Though it *technically* only goes up to a DD cup, it’s often still a great fit for those with E and F cups.

The Catalyst Sports Bra

The lift and compression of the Catalyst Bra remains unmatched. If your breasts tend to droop, the Catalyst’s molded cups and thick band will provide serious lift. “It really does hold you in place,” says Alex.

While it was designed for high impact movement for a wide range of shapes and sizes, Alex finds those with larger busts often wear it as an everyday bra because it’s so supportive.
