]]>
At Knix we are proud that our customers trust us with their bodies. They trust us to photograph them as part of our campaigns, they trust us to share their stories, and above all—they trust us to make intimates that are comfortable, safe, and effective.

As part of that trust we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that we do not intentionally use toxic or harmful chemicals in our products and to be open and honest about what, exactly, that promise means. We began routine testing for certain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in our leakproof fabrics and leakproof products back in January 2020 when questions began to arise in the global community regarding a potential link between the period underwear category and PFAS given the water repellent nature of certain products in that category. Shortly thereafter we began testing for organic fluorine (the “F” in PFAS).

We have been sharing examples of our test results with the Knix community since January 2020 and will continue to do so. To skip to see sample results please scroll down to the bottom of the blog post. These results are from leading testing labs, and what you will find when reviewing them is that neither PFAS nor organic fluorine was detected at the testing limits. We will continue to routinely update our blog so you can see the results from our most recent testing, which is part of our quality procedure. The most recent test results shared are from December 2023 and the testing limits used were 0.01 - 1 parts per million (ppm) which can also be stated as 10-1000 parts per billion (ppb) for the PFAS testing and 20 ppm for organic fluorine testing.

Doing the real work to ensure that our products are safe, and that our consumers understand the science, is no small feat. We will continue to monitor the complex and ever-changing world of PFAS – a vast number of chemicals that the government, researchers, and companies are still struggling to fully define and understand.

These complexities are part of the reason that we have publicly advocated for increased PFAS regulation and education. The bottom line is that the best we can do at Knix is to source quality materials and test them along with finished leakproof garments to help ensure PFAS are not intentionally used in their manufacture. Knix, or any company for that matter, cannot promise that a product will make it to customers PFAS free because of the omnipresence of PFAS in the environment (they can be found in water, air, soil and even breast milk) and the supply chain, which creates the potential for trace levels of PFAS or PFAS-like chemicals to inadvertently find their way into products.

Let’s begin by sharing a high level overview of our sourcing and testing protocols for our leakproof products:

 1. It starts with efforts to source quality fabrics, many of which are evaluated by an independent third party for certain regulated and non-regulated substances. We also conduct our own testing of the fabrics both for specific PFAS and for organic fluorine. Only fabrics that meet our strict standards are used.
 2. We contractually prohibit our third-party textile and manufacturing suppliers from intentionally using PFAS, which are on our restricted substance list.
 3. We also require our suppliers to guarantee that the products and materials they supply to us do not contain added PFAS, and require them to conduct their own quality control testing for PFAS and fluorine.
 4. We test our products regularly for the most commonly analyzed PFAS.
 5. We conduct regular organic fluorine testing. We routinely test samples of finished products. Our core fabrics are also tested on an annual basis.
 6. We share sample results from our routine spot testing for finished products here on this blog. To see sample results please scroll down.

What are PFAS?

Although the exact definition varies throughout the globe, PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) is a term commonly used to refer to a large number of synthetic chemicals that have carbon and fluorine bonds. PFAS are used in wide array of commercial and industrial products, and they have historically been used in the textile and apparel industry as a stain or water repellent. The two most commonly discussed PFAS are PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) and PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonate), but according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), there are over twelve thousand different PFAS out there. Research is still ongoing to identify, test and understand the potential human and environmental health impacts of these substances.

While it is not currently feasible to test for all 12,000 PFAS directly, we do know that all PFAS contain organic fluorine (this is the “F” in PFAS). Organic fluorine is typically synthetic and is one known PFAS marker. It is not to be confused with inorganic fluoride, which is found naturally in many minerals and other materials (including toothpaste and drinking water) and does not indicate the presence of PFAS. What does this mean? Testing for organic fluorine is the most efficient way to screen products to determine whether they may contain any of the thousands of different PFAS.

We Do Not Add PFAS

At Knix we do not intentionally use PFAS in the manufacturing of our leakproof products. However, PFAS are now so widely dispersed in the environment that even the water we drink has low levels of contamination that, unfortunately, cannot be avoided. These fluorinated compounds are also unavoidably present in supply chain processes, such as in the cleaning solutions and water used on manufacturing equipment.

Knix can and does control the safety and the quality of the materials we use. For example, Knix takes steps to ensure that all of its third-party textile suppliers do not intentionally use PFAS in the fabrics they supply to us. First, we prohibit all of our materials suppliers for our leakproof products from using PFAS in the manufacture of Knix products, and require them to guarantee that the products and materials they supply to us do not contain added PFAS. Second, we require our suppliers to conduct their own quality control testing for PFAS and fluorine. Third, we test the fabrics we order for the presence of organic fluorine – the defining element of PFAS. Any fabrics that do not meet our standards will not be used by Knix and will not make their way into your hands or onto your bodies.

Knix can also control the frequency, accuracy, and transparency of its PFAS testing. In addition to organic fluorine testing, Knix also regularly tests its products for the most common PFAS. Read more about our testing – and how it has evolved over the years – below.

Knix's PFAS & Organic Fluorine Testing

PFAS Testing

Before January 2020 PFAS was not generally a topic connected to our product category and as a result we had never tested our products for PFAS or made any public claims related to PFAS. Our leakproof technology was manufactured in Italy and subject to relevant legislation regulating PFAS substance restrictions applicable in the European Union, which have been quite progressive when compared to those in the US and Canada.

However, in early 2020, as Knix and others in our industry became more cognizant of PFAS, we and pursued extra third-party testing for peace of mind. This testing, an industry standard, is capable of identifying 20-30 main PFAS (like PFOA), which our Leakproof Underwear were cleared for. You can read a recent “non-detect” (meaning the particular PFAS were not detected) PFAS test report at the bottom of this page.

Fast forward to today, Knix partners with an industry-leading lab and experts that guide our PFAS testing, including testing for a wider array of PFAS.

Organic Fluorine Testing

In January 2020, we also began testing the fabrics used in our Leakproof Underwear products for fluorine (in addition to the direct PFAS testing described above), after learning that all PFAS contain organic fluorine. Since then we have made testing for fluorine part of our testing process and will continue to do so going forward. You can check out what a non-detect fluorine report looks like at the bottom of this post in a sample 2022 report for leakproof, super leakproof and cotton super leakproof.

We mentioned earlier the important difference between organic fluorine and inorganic fluoride. Several of our products are made with materials that can be expected to naturally contain inorganic fluoride (which is not found in PFAS). We learned that using a material we know is safe – seaweed! – could potentially skew total fluorine test results (i.e., testing for all fluorine, regardless of whether it is organic or inorganic) without actually indicating that our products contain PFAS. When reading about fluorine testing as connected to PFAS it’s important to ensure the testing is for organic fluorine, rather than total fluorine or inorganic fluoride.

Fast forward to today, Knix partners with an industry-leading lab and experts that guide our testing for organic fluorine.

What's Next

Having launched in 2013, we pride ourselves on being pioneers within the period underwear and leakproof underwear industry and as such we are leading by example— by calling for more transparency and stricter regulations in this growing category. Our work is ongoing, but we want to include you in our journey to address this PFAS issue in meaningful and informative ways.

Thank you for trusting us to make your intimates. If you have any other questions about product safety, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team at info@knix.com

So much has happened since International Women’s Day 2021 — it’s hard to believe this time last year I was on the precipice of delivering my twins. It’s even harder to believe, today, those twin girls are a year old.

Navigating my second pregnancy in tandem with raising capital for Knix marks one of the most challenging periods of my life. One year later, it’s incredible to see these moments of adversity translate into a film, Big. Strong. Woman., and a successful financing series that made our brand even more resolute in its values.

display: fullI still remember when Knix was a team of two (we’re now a team of over two hundred) and, as the company has grown, so have I. On a personal level, I find myself finally comfortable in my own skin — something I credit to Knix and the work we’ve done disrupting the mainstream and broadening beauty ideals.

Along the way, we’ve had the opportunity to work with some extraordinary women and people — including our partnership with the one and only Ashley Graham, a woman I deeply respect and admire.

Every day, we’ve also continued to prove that we’re more than just an intimates brand. Expanding our commitment to living unapologetically free with the launch of our activewear collection has been beyond exciting. The only thing more thrilling than exploring uncharted territory has been seeing our creations come to life through our community.

Just as rewarding has been using our platform and voice to tackle taboos, like demystifying the fourth trimester with our book Life After Birth and partnership with the Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI). Through this partnership, we committed an initial $75,000 in scholarships for NOURISH, a postpartum Doula training program, which 26 Doulas will be graduating from this year.

This year, for me, International Women’s Day is centered around recognizing the multitude of ways women are big and strong, and reminding people to see and celebrate their strength everyday. In doing so, I’m reminded to be proud of my own strength in navigating the growth of Knix, raising three kids under three, and the strides I’ve made on a personal level.

Today, I’m speaking at an event for Dress for Success, an organization that has helped countless women achieve economic independence through its network of resources. As a founder who has, for years, navigated the intersection of womanhood and entrepreneurship, it’s important to empower others to thrive professionally and personally.

Since founding Knix, I’ve witnessed many other female founder success stories. When I first started out, I was told Knix’s category and the challenges we were hoping to solve — menstruation and bladder leaks — were too “niche,” which speaks volumes.

Just as Knix has, other companies have broken through the barriers thanks to the strength, persistence, and resilience of their founders, but there’s still a long way to go. In 2021, only 2% of venture capital funding was allocated to female founders, the lowest since 2016. Even more harrowing, just 0.34% of this went towards Black female founders.

Looking forward, things need to change and we have to demand better. I often hear from people, “wow, Knix never stops,” and it’s true, we don’t. We’re on a mission to topple taboos, empower people to live free of self-doubt, and equip everyone to navigate the world with confidence — and we’re just getting started.

Knix is partnering with the Black Women’s Health Imperative to create NOURISH a Postpartum Doula training program designed around the needs of Black birthing families. We'll also be providing $75,000 in scholarships for the year long training, along with free postpartum care to 80 families. And with your help, ongoing proceeds from Knix’s Maternity and Postpartum Collection will also be going toward this brand new program.

Through the NOURISH Community Doula Training program, 20 Postpartum Doulas will be trained with certifications provided by the National Black Doula Association. The new program created by Knix and BWHI is called NOURISH for an important reason— it stands for New Opportunity to Uncover our Resources, Intuition, Spirit and Healing. And we’re so proud to be a part of this incredibly necessary program.

Through our Life After Birth Project, we’ve continually committed to fostering community and building support for people navigating their postpartum journeys. But now more than ever, Black women experience limited in-person prenatal care, less support during labor, and more postpartum social isolation during their “Fourth Trimester”. Black birthing parents are less likely to be screened for postpartum depression, which makes this an especially vulnerable time. However, studies have shown that support from a doula can improve the chances of healthy birth outcomes and reduce maternal mortality.

display: centred

We’re so thankful we got to chat with BWHI’s Director of Maternal Health, Kanika A. Harris, PhD, MPH all about NOURISH, the importance of supporting Black birth workers, what kind of care Postpartum Doulas provide and why BWHI is asking the question— how do we get Black moms supported and listened to?

Meet Kanika and the Black Women’s Health Imperative.

Hi Kanika, tell us a bit about BWHI and your role as Director of Maternal Health at BWHI.

BWHI has been around since 1983, started by Byllye Avery. It really started out of the need for reproductive justice and the need for Black women to have the necessary resources to support themselves and have access to healthy choices throughout their lives.

One of the first things Byllye Avery did was start a gynaecological care centre in Gainesville, Florida in response to a failed petition to get a Planned Parenthood clinic in their community. So they were like, okay, we will make this happen for ourselves. And that’s been the mission of BWHI after all these years: to really support the physical, emotional, financial, and mental needs of Black women nationally across the US. And to make sure we are speaking to the lived experiences of Black women.

I live and breathe maternal health. It’s what I do in my spare time, it’s what I do in my life— I’m the mom of 3 year old twins and an 8 year old son. I’m a near-miss survivor and a survivor of postpartum depression. And I am also a certified birth doula! I bring all those lived experiences to the table, along with the research and advocacy side of things.

Why is postpartum care especially important for the Black community?

When we’re talking about maternal mortality, we’re talking about deaths that happen up to one year after delivery. Sometimes a lot of people think maternal mortality means you’re dying during childbirth. That’s part of it, it accounts for about a third of deaths. But about one third of deaths also happen one week to one year postpartum.

That postpartum period is overlooked. We call it the “Fourth Trimester” and it’s important in terms of postpartum depression. Postpartum depression can change the trajectory of a woman's life if it’s not treated. It can be a chronic situation for the mom and the family, and it can transform into other issues.

Especially during COVID— moms are isolated. They don’t have family coming to help because of safety, especially grandparents, and that level of isolation when you have a new baby is just not good.

A post shared by BWHI (@blkwomenshealth)

What kind of support does a postpartum doula provide?

They offer informational support, emotional support. There’s tangible support too— like helping around the house. Helping with a bit of tidying, helping to hold the baby while mom sleeps, helping the birth parent with feeding. Especially helping mom and baby bond and helping the family adjust to a new baby. Physically healing from delivery, talking through healing meals and nutrition. Helping the parents work through any issues postpartum. Maybe mom isn’t feeling well and she’s dismissing it. Postpartum doulas will help to advocate and help her speak up, or help her recognize if she needs a doctor’s visit sooner rather than later. Those are critical points where you can save a mom’s life.

Living in the United States we have this idea that strength comes from figuring it out alone and by yourself. We put that on moms too. But no one in the world births in isolation. Birthing children and having children builds community. So we want to support building a community. Having help or getting a postpartum doula is not a sign of weakness, or that you’re doing anything wrong. This is what you’re supposed to have.

What are some of the biggest issues Black women face when it comes to maternal health right now? How has COVID-19 played a role?

The issues Black women face when it comes to maternal health have spanned over decades. We have research to prove that education and income are not necessarily protective factors against maternal mortality or poor birth outcomes. Black women and birthing people are bearing the brunt of the maternal health crisis in the United States. The United States has the worst maternal health outcomes out of all developed nations.

Most of this is stemmed from the stress Black women experience in terms of racism in this country. And the reason it spans across socio-economic status is because you can be a Black lawyer— but the stress of becoming a lawyer and the stress of being the only person of color in the room is a lot. Those experiences of isolation, those stressors can lead to high risk pregnancies.

On the flip side, there’s the stress of not having your basic needs met. Living in poverty, not having access to quality food or quality healthcare, environmental issues, poor air quality— these all contribute to high risk pregnancies. So we’re seeing it on both ends.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by BWHI (@blkwomenshealth)

And then, just living in a country that doesn’t affirm who you are as a human being. Not seeing yourself represented. Seeing things like the George Floyd trial, the narrative of race and the devaluation of Black women— we’re experiencing situations where we’re not listened to, where we’re not believed, our pains and concerns are not taken seriously. And so when you’re talking about a life or death situation, we’re not making the cut.

COVID-19 has really unveiled and lifted this cloak when it comes to maternal care, because you’re seeing now that mothers are getting even less maternal care. It’s been a situation where we’re losing moms during COVID because they have even less support. It amplified the need for doulas, amplified the need for better support and care, and has made us ask— how do we get moms heard and listened to?

Why is it especially important to support Black birth workers?

Health care providers are trained by a culture of gynaecological care that was built off of Black women’s bodies. Literally torturing Black women’s bodies. When you think of that level of disrespect from the founding fathers of gynaecological care in America, it’s so deep rooted in terms of how we’re trained to this day.

There are levels of bias that we just can’t be aware of because of how we’re conditioned from the time we’re born. It’s so important to have more Black researchers, more Black doctors, more Black doulas that can advocate and ask the right questions— ask the questions we’re not thinking of as patients, listen to us and recognize cues. Having the representation in hospitals is a life or death issue right now.

What are your hopes for the future of maternal health?

I always tear up when someone asks me this question. My hope is that my daughter is heard and listened to, that she lives in a space that affirms who she is and who she wants to be. That she lives in a space that is unburdened so she can birth a family and feel supported and she’s healthy. That her identity and her culture within that space of birth is heard and not questioned. She doesn’t have to walk into this process from a space of fear, a space of having to fight. A space where she will be getting sacred, respectful care.

In her book A New Model, Ashley Graham makes a bold proclamation: “Too fat, too thin, too loud, too quiet, I was never going to fit the standards others created for me. Instead of complying, I protested.”

It’s something that Knix lives for every day too: the freedom to live without judgement and self-doubt, a rallying cry against relentless and unachievable social standards. Which is why we feel so proud to partner with and announce our first Global Brand Ambassador, the one and only Ashley Graham a speaker, model, mom and icon whose mantra of Beauty at Every Size is one that radiates across everything she does. “I believe all bodies are beautiful in all stages of life”, Ashley told us. We can’t help but agree.

To welcome her into the Knix community, we’re so excited to present Knix Active alongside Ashley Graham. An activewear collection built around the love of movement and the expressions that make us feel the most free, it’s a celebration of our selves. It’s a celebration of how we see the world, how we communicate, how we express ourselves. It’s a celebration of moving our bodies for us, and no one else.

display: centred

From working out in the Catalyst, to challenging unrealistic body standards throughout her career, to chasing around her son— Ashley does this all by embracing what makes her body feel good. Whether it’s a HIIT workout or a midday stretch, feeling powerful and strong starts with feeling confident. It starts with feeling good. With sports bras designed to reduce breast movement that size up to an H cup, and innovative Leakproof leggings and shorts designed to make you feel comfortable and supported— our new Active Collection is an authentic joy to move in. And this is only the start.

At our core, Knix is a celebration of an incredibly colorful community. And as we march (and dance) our way into Pride Month 2021, the celebration is only getting bigger, brighter and louder.

When we talk about having a colorful community this month, we have to first point toward the rainbow Pride flag. A Pride icon— symbolic of solidarity, power, and community, it was created by activist Gilbert Baker in 1978. Said to be inspired by Judy Garland’s Over the Rainbow and the Stonewall Riots that happened only a few days before, Baker assigned every color a meaning:

Red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, blue for harmony and purple for spirit.

progress pride flag display: centred

What I like about the rainbow is that it fits all of us, Gilbert said about his creation. Recently, you may have noticed a few additions to the flag, that speak to this inclusion even more. New black and brown stripes pay necessary attention to the unique experiences faced by queer people of color, while the blue, white and pink stripes put focus on the trans and non-binary members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community as well.

This version is aptly called the Progress Pride Flag, and was designed by artist Daniel Quasar to emphasize the current needs of the community. These additions are there as a reminder: There is no Pride for some without liberation for all.

With the meaningful and unifying rainbow flag flying in celebration of equally colorful people, we cannot wait to continue celebrating the community that the flag symbolizes. From family, to friends, to co-workers to strangers online, this month we’re celebrating all the ways we’re able to make connections, find support, feel seen and share love. Follow along at @knix and on The Lift all month long for stories by people in our community we’re so proud to know.

Kicking off Pride month are some proud members of Team Knix. Celebrating with some good tunes, friends in the park and some colorful tanks, our Knix Pride Class of 2021 is one community we love being part of.

Have a safe and happy Pride!

Love, Knix

]]>
One thing that you should know about me is that I am a dreamer. Always have been. I used to dream of meeting the Backstreet Boys. I dreamed of singing on the big stage. I dreamed of being CEO of a media company. And then I started to dream about Knix.

At first my dreams were small— figure out how to make a product, get people to know about it, get people to buy it. Over the past nine years I’ve had the pleasure of having so many of my dreams come true. At the same time, it’s come with more hard work than I could have ever imagined and I’ve had my heart broken more times than I can count. I’ve become immune to the word no. I had to learn you collect thousands of no’s on your journey to get one yes

I’ve become super comfortable with being underestimated. Rather than taking it personally I view it as a strength— because I set the expectations I have for myself. I get to define and redefine the person that I want to be. Always growing, always learning.

Last fall I had a new dream. I wanted to raise a round of financing for Knix before giving birth to my twin girls. I wanted to prove that pregnancy or motherhood doesn’t have to be viewed as some kind of setback. I knew it would be hard. I knew that some people would underestimate or overlook me because of it. But I also knew I could do it.

display: centred

Dream by dream I have been fortunate enough to build an incredible team and a brand that touches more people than I could have ever imagined. Today we announced our minority growth equity round as we gear up to surpass $100M in revenue. I closed the round on March 5th at 4:30 pm on my last day of work— three days before the girls were born. I am so incredibly grateful to our new partners TZP as well as Acton Capital, Ashley Graham (pinch me), Tom Williams and Yard Ventures for believing in my vision and helping me realize the next chapter of dreams. People say to dream big. But I say dream often. Because what you thought was impossible yesterday might just be possible today.

While the concept of raising money for your business doesn’t apply to everyone, we all have moments where we contemplate taking a risk and going for something big. Regardless of what that big thing is, the same considerations apply in a lot of ways— especially if we’re thinking about how or if they line up with the timeline of having a family or other major life events.

With that in mind I wanted to share three things I learned through this process that might be helpful for others.

Don’t be afraid to own your timeline

It can often feel like life happens to us, versus us happening to life and this concept has never felt more true than in the context of the past year during the pandemic. So I am here to remind you that you can own the timeline of your life. There is never really a good time to do something but there certainly are bad times— and a lot of it has to do with your bandwidth which is something that is uniquely personal. I took a big risk in raising money while pregnant but it worked best for my timeline. I knew that once the girls were born I would be exhausted so I made it work for me— even though it went against everything I had been told as a female founder. There’s an unspoken rule that you shouldn’t raise money while pregnant. Turns out you can.

Be selective about who you partner with

This is true in any relationship— whether that be a life partner, a company, a working partnership or an investor. Each of these unique relationships require trust, communication and mutual respect.

In the case of raising money I had a simple rule: if someone spoke negatively about my pregnancy and my ability to run Knix while raising a family, they were removed from the process. It was clear to me that if they questioned my ability to parent and run a company, they clearly didn’t understand what Knix was about. From my perspective, it was better to find out ahead of time than in the boardroom. In a lot of ways I’m grateful to have had this litmus test. It gave me more faith in who we ultimately decided to work with, knowing that we shared similar values.

Understand the power of relationships

The key to understanding is to invest in your relationships ahead of time. In the case of TZP, I had known the partner Erin O’Brien Edwards for over 5 years. She actually visited Knix’s first basement office back in 2016 and was an original customer of our Evolution Bra and headbands (RIP Knix headbands). Having an established existing relationship meant that I could move quickly (owning the timeline) and be selective about who we partner with— all because there was already a track record of trust. It can be a challenge to nourish relationships while juggling everything else but don’t underestimate the value of regular check-ins with people in your life.

So what does this mean for Knix?

Ultimately it means that we get to do more of what we love. We can make more products, and buy more stock so we aren’t selling out all the time. We can tell more incredible stories and bring you even more breakthrough campaigns. We’re looking forward to connecting with more of you on a personal level— by opening more stores and expanding our virtual fittings.

I am so excited for Knix’s next chapter of growth and very grateful to our community of customers and supporters that has helped build Knix into the company it is today. We couldn’t have done it without you.

OMG did you know that you can visit us IRL?

With two Knix stores, one in Toronto and the other in Vancouver, there’s no better time to emerge from your winter hibernation to say 👋 to Team Knix.

We have some surprises in store (literally), so read on to learn about all the wonderfully fab reasons to come visit us!

We can safely say it’s safe

The Knix stores are proof that you can have fun and be safe. We chatted with Asmaa, our Senior Manager of Retail to get the lowdown on all precautions the Knix stores are taking to ensure everyone is comfortable: “We have hand sanitizer upon entry, and in all the fitting rooms. Products for try-on are available and sanitized at a high temperature after each use, and high-touch surfaces are sanitized frequently too”. We also provide masks in case you accidentally left yours at home (we’ve all been there).

It’s not mandatory, but it is encouraged to book an appointment to shop or get fitted for products! This is to cut out any wait times for you, so you can browse in a breeze. To schedule an appointment at our Toronto location, click here and for our west coast friends in Vancouver, you can click here.

We can help you figure out your bra size (once and for all)

Bra sizing is not for the faint of heart. Letters, numbers, bands, straps, hooks, zippers— sometimes it feels like you need a PhD just to land on a size and style that fits comfortably. Luckily our Knix staff practically have doctorates in bra sizing. With a flick of a measuring tape, you’ll be totally set to take on the world one cup at a time.

We don’t just have bras and underwear!

Come for our iconic Leakproof Underwear, and stay for our Loungewear, Postpartum Collection, Shapewear, PJs, and swimsuits! Get a feel for our new Cotton-Modal undies, and browse all of the wireless bras you’ve ever dreamed of. Pro tip: We have Leakproof Underwear for teens in store too.

We think you deserve it

Maybe you’ve noticed mid-spring clean that you haven’t bought new undies in a while. Or perhaps you’ve finally decided to banish all underwires from your life once and for all (Finally! Welcome new friends). Or it could just be that you’re on a quest to treat your damn self. Make a day out of it, and visit some other small businesses in the area while you’re at it. Our store fronts are located at 294 Queen Street West in Toronto and 2076 W 4th Ave in Vancouver, so there are a ton of local neighbours to support!

For more information on store times and location, or to book a fitting appointment click here for Toronto and here for Vancouver. See you soon!

The jeans in the back of your closet do NOT want you to read this.

The jeans in the back of your closet do NOT want you to read this article.

And for good reason. With sweatpants emerging as our go-to work uniforms, errand outfits and our wine-and-charcuterie-night-in ensembles— loungewear reigns supreme for a simple reason (and no, it’s not just that they’re basically pajamas you can wear during the day). It’s that they’re extremely versatile.

Knix’s new Good to Go drop is exactly that— a bold collection of joggers, crewnecks and rompers that you can wear literally anywhere and at anytime. And as we emerge from our winter cocoons refreshed, revitalized (and maybe even vaccinated!), we’re ready to start showing off our most fab lounge looks in public this spring.

But how exactly does one go from couch to runway? Change out of your slippers and into a fresh pair of sneakers— we’ve got all the styling tips you need to make your sweats good to go no matter the occasion.

Keep it Monochrome

good to go in black
The Crewneck and Joggers in Black also come in a set so you can match in a flash

The humble sweatsuit can transform into a major fashion moment with just a bit of color coordinating. The first step is figuring out a full-body color that you’ll be able to stick to. Thankfully, we took care of this part— by creating 3 colorway sets in our Good to Go sweatsuits that scream, now this is a monochromatic palette, honey. Once you settle on Black, Cinnamon or Pacifica— add on a jacket, shoes, bag and hat that all have similar tones. Mix and match textures and fabrics too! And don’t worry if not everything is exactly the same tone. Keeping things monochrome (or monochrome-ish), automatically makes your ensemble thoughtful-looking— which makes it not only a super easy look to create, but an impressive one too.

Add Jewelry

good to go cinnamon
The Cinnamon Set looks gorge with a little bit of gold!

Throwing in some sparkle, shine, glitz and/or glam never hurt anyone. Nothing says, “I didn’t just wear these while watching Netflix for 4 hours in bed”, like adding a simple gold chain to your Good to Go look. For extra spice, dig into your jewelry box and add a few more chains for a stunning layered look.

Find Some Structure

good to go romper black
From bedroom to boardroom, a blazer over the Black Good to Go Set instantly transforms the the look.

Loungewear is soft, cozy, flowy and relaxed! So an easy way to transform your sweats is to add a little structure to your fit. The easiest way to do this is by layering with (and write this down) a #FunJacketMoment! We’re talking denim jackets. We’re talking trench coats. We’re talking blazers even! Adding an oversized jacket with some structure will have people turning your way and thinking, “Hold on, is that Hailey Bieber?”

Shoes Complete the Look

good to go pacifica
A fresh sneaker changes everything! Especially with the Pacifca set

Not to throw the author of this article right under the bus, but when she wears joggers, she often pairs them with Crocs or some sort of slip-on slide (I’m talking about myself here readers). In my defence, this is what we call a “dog-walking” look. Now, this ensemble is just fine and fresh for a walk around the park, but it can be easily elevated with a fresh pair of old-school sneakers. You can also play around with a chunky boot, or try out your best Kardashian cosplay with a strappy sandal. The opportunities are endless!

Shop the Good to Go Collection here and tag us in your best lounge looks @Knixwear!

~

The Rachel to our Monica, the Oprah to our Gayle, the Thelma to our Louise— we’ve never been shy about how much we love Sarah Nicole Landry of @thebirdspapaya

You never know how or when a lifelong friendship is about to begin. It could start with a cookie shared on the playground. A note passed in class. A knowing glance from the co-worker in the cubicle beside you. For Knix and Sarah, it started with an Instagram DM in 2017.

After spotting a photo of Sarah wearing Knix, Knix Founder and CEO Joanna Griffiths reached out to her immediately. “I clicked through her profile and started scrolling”, Joanna remembers. “I was so blown away by her authenticity, her openness and her talent as a writer. She was so refreshingly different. The team will tell you that I was obsessed with having her in our next photoshoot and would have rescheduled the entire day just so she could be part of it”.

The Birds Papaya display: centred

Stemming from a single photoshoot, the friendship grew. From a swim shoot in California, to a Life After Birth Panel in Vancouver, to even consulting at Knix HQ in Toronto— we’re so excited to be on this journey with her.

Dropping October 18th, the Papaya Box is a celebration of our longtime collaboration and admiration. Curated by Sarah herself, the box features her Knix favs and her dream Knix product— our first ever pair of leggings (exclusive to the Papaya Box)! It also includes amazingly beautiful hand-picked products from women-led small businesses, TISH Jewelry and NOMI+SIBS. If you’re just as excited as we are, join the waitlist to get yours

We caught up with Sarah at a very quiet Knix HQ recently. We stopped by her old desk, gave her a sneaky quick peek at our 2021 collections, and chatted all things Papaya Box. Read on to learn everything about it.

The Papaya Box
Hi Sarah! Let's take it back. What initially drew you to Knix?

I had seen your ads around, and spotted a couple friends wearing Knix. I finally asked a friend "Are they really as great as they sound?" and she said yes! So I bought my first ever Knix bra and I was immediately in love. I had never been so comfortable.

We’ve been on quite the ride. Do you have a fav Knix experience so far?

That first time Joanna ever slid into my DMs was such a star struck moment. It was such an honour. That first shoot together? It was so terrifying and transformative and by far one of the most memorable days of my life.

The Birds Papaya Now a photoshoot pro, Sarah in the Papaya Box Longevity Bra and High Rise Thong
Tell us about the Papaya Box. How did you pick the items?

If you've ever worn Knix before, you've likely at some point wanted them to make leggings! Their designs and fabrics just always feel like Knix truly LISTENS and makes items that fit (and fit well) for a variety of reasons and for a variety of bodies.

Papaya BoxOnly a stroll through the neighbourhood could look this fab with the Papaya Box exclusive Leggings.

Throughout the years, I'd mentioned a couple times how I'd love to see leggings. But something that looked edgy and cool (hello, faux-leather)! From there we collaborated on a few ideas. We decided to also include the High Rise Thong— which is a game changer especially during dress wearing seasons. We also chose the Longevity Bra, because it could easily second as a cute cropped tank as well. Finally, I wanted to show love and support for a couple of my fav small businesses that are BIPOC owned and women-lead. I’m so, so, so elated that the Papaya Box includes TISH Jewelry and NOMI+SIBS.

papaya box

Who is the Papaya Box perfect for?

This box is perfect for anyone who's had faux-leather or high shine leggings fail them before, or are ready to take the plunge for the first time this year. Any true Knix fan knows that you need to strike when it's hot (or it's gone, so sign up to be notified!) And of course, it's the perfect gift with the holidays around the corner— both my mom and MIL also reminded me how great a gift it is!

What’s your favorite Knix product?

I'm truly shocked at how well the leggings turned out. They are so dreamy. The structure of the top band is so amazing even when it comes to my changing shape. They’re breathable and the edgy, chic vibe I had hoped for!! Oh, and if I can... a second fav: the High Rise Thong. Because… wow.

Thanks Sarah💕 We can’t wait to see what’s next. Grab all of Sarah’s favorites in the exclusive Papaya Box dropping October 18th.

More

]]>
It’s been a while since we’ve updated you, but our campaign to facilitate and deliver Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to frontline healthcare workers is still going strong.

We're excited to announce that the campaign has reached

$782,016.58 in donations!

What do your donations look like in PPE? Thanks to you, the Robert Kerr Foundation and the City of Hamilton— we've made 587 shipments to 225 organizations. You've helped us provide:

 • 226,800 gloves
 • 290,200 surgical masks
 • 9820 N95 Masks
 • 25,000 disinfecting wipes
 • 5000 snack bars
 • 5034 litres of sanitizer (that's enough to sanitize 2 million pairs of hands!)

How did this get started? Back in March, Dr. Chris Griffiths mentioned to his sister (and Knix founder) Joanna that his hospital was already running low on PPE. With an unpredictable road ahead, masks, gowns and gloves for frontline workers were in short supply a reality that still impacts healthcare institutions around the world fighting against COVID-19.

So Knix got to work with team members who took on second jobs working evenings and weekends to do our part to source, buy and distribute PPE. With a commitment that Knix would cover all transportation and logistics costs, we launched a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of raising $50,000. Thanks to your support and a partnership with the Robert Kerr Foundation, that number is nearing almost at 1 million dollars.

We launched this campaign simply because we wanted to help in any way possible. “However, for Knix this has become so much more than a one time thing”, Joanna told us. It even inspired us to create our own face masks.

We would never be able to do this alone. We’d like to thank Virox for donating disinfectant, Purell for donating hand sanitizer, Suzie’s Good Fats for donating snacks for frontline workers, and the Pizza Pizza events team for helping us make deliveries every week. And you, for making this all possible.

We knew our Knix community was incredible, but we’re continuously blown away by all of the love and support you have to give. When the world seems to be in a dark place, it’s beautiful to see people coming together to make it much, much brighter.

Summer 2020 has certainly flown by a little quicker than usual this year. And while we seem to be absolutely zooming through August (wasn't it just winter?), there is still plenty of time to cherish the warm, sunny and bright days ahead.

With Team Knix still working safely from home, we caught up with a few of them to see which Knix products they’ve been loving lately, and what they recommend as we close out one undoubtedly memorable summer.

The Thigh Saver

Laura, Copywriter:

I recently got my hands on a pair of Thigh Savers and I finally get it! I'm the kind of gal that exclusively wears dresses all summer to stay cool and comfortable and these have been the missing ingredient. A total dream to walk around in and best of all, totally invisible to the naked eye.

Steph, Social Media Manager:

The Thigh Saver Shortie, no doubt. I wear a lot of little skirts and dresses, especially in the summer. Not to mention I also ride my bike everywhere I can!

The Evolution Bra

evolution bra august colors

Sarah, Customer Empowerment Supervisor:

I’m loving my Evolution Bra for gardening and walking the dog. It has a supportive neckline and under band that keeps me in place all day long, even when I’m sweaty! Plus it comes in a new color for August that I'm obsessed with.

Lounge Pant

Isabella, Content Specialist:

Summer 2020 has been the summer of lounging for me. Like many, I’ve been keeping it close to home, and the Knix Lounge Pant has literally been my uniform for the past 4 months. They are breezy, they are soft, and they work great as PJ bottoms too (tbh, sometimes I just forget to take them off at night)! It's also a bonus that Jillian Harris loves them too, and I would trust her with my life.

The Pullover Bra

Suzanne, Brand Manager:

I’ve worn the Pullover Bra pretty much every day this summer. It’s so soft and I literally forget I'm wearing it. The other morning I woke up and realized I wore it to bed under my T-shirt without even realizing! That would never happen with any other bra.

The Dream Short

Evie, Retention Marketing Manager:

I mean, I am always a Dream Short fan— doesn’t matter the season! I even wear them to lounge around at home when I’m not on my period. I just freaking love them.

Imagine this: You wake up in the morning and you shuffle around your bra drawer. You pull out your favorite bra. You put it on. And then… that’s it. You don’t think about it during the day. You don’t rush to take it off at night. In fact, you forget you were even wearing one.

Sounds like a dream? Doesn’t have to be! Welcome to the wonderful world of wireless bras. Welcome to Knix. Read on to learn more about which Knix everyday bra is perfect for you based on your breast size and shape. Take notes, because there will be a quiz at the end (just kidding).

The WingWoman Contour Bra

THE BASICS:

Available in 5 different nude shades, the wireless WingWoman has a plunging neckline and molded foam cups that provide the most shape and definition of all our bras. But wait, there’s more. Extra side coverage eliminates sideboob and overspill. It’s a win/win (or a wing/wing).

YOUR PERFECT KNIX FIT IF:

Your breasts are relaxed and not as full at the top. “The WingWoman is also great if your breasts are teardrop shaped or asymmetrical”, Knix designer Linda Kritikos told us. If this isn’t how your boobs swing and you’re fuller at the top, you might want to try sizing up in the cups for a little extra room, or going with the Padded V-Neck instead. Not sure? Meet a Knixpert by booking a Virtual Fit session here.

The Padded V-Neck

THE BASICS:

With a neckline perfect for lower cut tops, this bra gives you a natural shape with light, removable padding (yay for versatility!). The Padded V-Neck also has wider straps for extra support.

YOUR PERFECT KNIX FIT IF:

You love the look of the WingWoman but your breasts are round or fuller up top. The wider straps provide amazing support for breasts that have a little extra density. But because the Padded V-Neck is so versatile (with sizing from 32A- 42G), it also works for all kinds of breasts shapes too! One of our Knixperts Hannah told us, “I generally recommend the Padded V-Neck to people as a first Knix bra to try because it gives you a good sense of what a wireless bra is like”.

The Infinity Bra

THE BASICS:

Knix’s newest everyday bra, you’ll want to wear the Infinity until the end of time. Completely wireless and totally seamless, the molded cups allow for a super smooth silhouette under tops and tees.

YOUR PERFECT KNIX FIT IF:

You have a smaller band and cup size. Available in select cup sizes and bands 28” - 38” (with adjustable straps so you can wear it cross-back for extra support), the Infinity is one bra you’ll always be in love with.

The Evolution Bra

THE BASICS:

This is the OG Knix Bra and has been a customer fav for years. It’s reversible, unpadded, and wire-free. What more could you want in a bra?

YOUR PERFECT KNIX FIT IF:

You’re looking for a super comfy unpadded bra with a ton of support. Remember, the Evo is unpadded! If you’re looking for some extra nipple coverage, look to the Padded V-Neck or the WingWoman. The Evo works for all breast shapes but if your breasts are quite asymmetrical, check out the WingWoman for more definition.

The Luxelift Pullover Bra

THE BASICS:

Super easy to pull on and off, this scoop neck bra has absolutely no hardware and is incredibly seamless and smooth. It has removable cups for versatility, and can be worn under ANYTHING. Yes, even the tightest white tank you own.

YOUR PERFECT KNIX FIT IF:

You want the comfort and versatility of the V-Neck but love the ease of a pullover style. It’s great for everyday use and to work out in, which also makes it a great starter Knix bra. All boob sizes and styles welcome, as it has sizing from a 30A to 42G!

Knix Pro Tips:

Meet Team Knix: For personalized bra recommendations, sizing help or fit assistance, book a 1-on-1 Virtual Fitting Session with someone from Team Knix. You can also reach out to the team via email, phone or chat too. Think of them as your Fairy BraParents.

Spend some time with your Knix: When trying out Knix for the first time, keep in mind that our bras often fit snug at first. If you find your Knix bra tight when it first arrives, give it a few wears and washes— it just needs a little bit of love so it adapts to your body!

There is no better time to talk about color than in June. Not only are our surroundings in full summer bloom but it’s also Pride Month!

The colorful rainbow flag has become a Pride icon— symbolic of solidarity, power, community and queer culture. Created by activist Gilbert Baker, he also assigned every color a meaning: red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, blue for harmony and purple for spirit. You might also see a version of the flag with black and brown stripes that pays necessary attention to the issues faced by people of color in the LGBTQ+ community.

With the meaningful rainbow flag flying in celebration of an equally colorful community, we decided to chat with our amazing Design Director Jules Power about the importance of color in both her work at Knix and in life. If you’ve ever been in love with one of Knix's prints or colors, you have Jules to thank! Meet Jules.

Hi Jules! Walk us through the process of selecting colors and prints for Knix.

I start by looking for inspiration. I usually look to art, music, design and social media. I’m a huge fan of street style so just taking a walk down Queen Street West (home of our Toronto storefront!) often gets the creative juices going! From there I pull together color palettes and prints that feel fresh and exciting for Knix.

What’s your favorite part of the process?

Probably one of the most fun parts of my job is the research! I love connecting with people and hearing about their experiences with Knix what they love, what they wish we would make.

What is your favorite print or color you’ve designed at Knix?

Ohhh that’s a tough one - I have so many favs! Ok, I’ll let you in on a little secret, we have the most amazing shade of golden yellow coming out this fall— it’s my new favorite. I also really love the WILDFLOWER print that we released last month. It looks so great on everyone! (You can still snag the undies here)

Who is your biggest design inspo right now?

Currently, I am obsessed with Tracee Ellis Ross, an actor and business owner. She has the most AMAZING personal style and also created a haircare brand called Pattern that has incredibly cool branding and packaging. Tracee’s energy and positive vibes really inspire me on so many levels.

What prints and colors in fashion do you predict will define the next decade?

Good question! We’re at a hugely pivotal point in the world, our attitudes and behaviours are shifting dramatically so I believe fashion will start to look and feel different too. We’re going to be seeing lots of neutral colors that inspire calm and comfort. We’ll also see shadowy darks and colors from nature.

What’s your favorite color and why?

I gravitate towards earthy tones like warm spice, sandy brown and terracotta. They remind me of sun-baked, summer days and a very special trip I took to Kenya.

How do you live a colorful life both at Knix and outside of work?

My friends, family and co-workers are such a diverse group of people who truly fill my life with color! I love exploring their worlds and learning about different cultures and lifestyles, it is what keeps life bright and exciting for me. The world is full of color - there is so much to learn and experience.

Are there any BIPOC LGBTQ+ designers or artists we should be paying more attention to?

Kenesha Sneed is one of my favourite artists.

Aurora James is a super cool sustainable footwear designer based on Brooklyn who works with artisans in Nairobi, Kenya.

Cass Bird is a phenomenal LGBTQ photographer (she’s brilliant).

Tasya van Ree is a must ‘get to know’ if you like art! Please check her out!

Leah Thomas is a very inspiring environmentalist activist and writer.

Last year, Team Knix celebrated Pride by lacing up and heading out to Toronto’s Pride & Remembrance 5K run. Some of us finished in record time, while others (perhaps the author of this article) barely made it across the finish line. All of us however, had an amazing time celebrating our wonderfully colorful community.

And while there are no runs or parades to attend this year, the energy of Pride 2020 flows just like it did when the movement was initiated 51 years ago.

On June 28, 1969, police violently raided the Stonewall Inna gay bar in the West Village of New York City. This sparked rioting and protests over the next few nights from members of the LGBTQ community who were tired of constantly being mistreated, neglected and abused by anti-gay laws.

No one knows exactly who started the riots, but it's largely believed that Black lesbian Stormé Delarverie kicked it off, with the riots led and sustained by activists Marsha P. Johnson, Silvia Rivera and Zazu Nova— all trans women of color.

Marsha P. Johnson (left) and Silvia Rivera (right)

This Pride (and beyond), it’s important to remember that Black Lives are at the cornerstone of the LGBTQ+ community’s freedoms. It’s important to remember that when you’re celebrating Pride, you are also standing in solidarity with #BlackLivesMatter. Knix is proud to do both.

Here’s how some members of Team Knix are celebrating Pride during this important year.

Steven Hudson, COO

I just celebrated my one year anniversary with Knix, and I’m currently feeling so proud of our organization. In a time of such uncertainty, I’m consistently floored by the way people show up. So proud and so lucky!

This year I’m accidentally celebrating Pride quarantined with my family in the desert. My family is currently split between the US and Canada. Long story short our oldest son had a bit of an accident back in the States. Thankfully he’s going to be fine.... And with everything going on in the world, I’m grateful to be able to be here with my family knowing they are safe and sound.

As a gay adoptive father of three children of colour including a gay Black son, I am feeling conflicted this Pride. In some ways we have seen progress, and in others we have so much work to do. I am grateful to everyone who is helping to fight that fight. If you are looking for a way to pitch in this Pride season, consider a donation to a group like thetrevorproject.org – who give all LGBTQ youth a safe place to turn in times of crisis.

Hannah Sinclair, Customer Empowerment Coordinator

This picture is from Pride last year. I was all set to join my Knix pals for the parade in Toronto when I got a call at 9 AM that this little babe was about to come into the world. So I abandoned my plans and jumped in a cab. It would have been hard for Pride to beat this moment. I’m going to school to be a midwife and this was the first ever birth that I got to attend. Her mom is a close family member and I have rarely felt more proud than when I was asked to be her doula and witnessed this birth.

Pride feels different this year, not only because of COVID, but also because of the pandemic of anti-Black racial violence. I’m celebrating this year by remembering that the first pride was a riot and that I have BIPOC trans women to thank for so many of my freedoms. I’m donating to a fund to help support more Black student midwives here in Ontario and making myself a summer reading list of Black women authors.

This year I’m also trying to remember that special moment from last year and celebrate that Pride doesn’t have to be one weekend a year. My (future) work makes me proud. Supporting people having babies and forming new families and helping to foster a more inclusive community within birth work makes me feel proud all year round.

Julia Friesen, E-Commerce Product Manager

I’m most proud of how much LGBTQ representation we have a Knix! I feel like this is an office where I really can bring my whole self to work. Chatting over the lunch hour about who is dating who without pronouns being a focus in the convo is a small but important difference to other workplaces.

This year I’m taking time to educate myself on Black and POC issues. I want to do my part to make all minority groups feel the way I do, able to show up wholly themselves without fear of judgement. I know how liberating it felt for me to get to that place, and I have a responsibility to use my privilege to work so that everyone gets to experience that. I recommend following Sandy Hudson, who has been an amazing resource.

Elizabeth Patti, Customer Empowerment Coordinator

I’m most proud of my improvement in cooking! My dad has always been an amazing cook and I’ve learned a lot from him. I’ve always enjoyed cooking for myself, but now that I have a lot more time in quarantine, I’m able to test out recipes and trust my instincts to develop new ones! I’ve also had to get super creative with leftovers.

I had grand ambitions of throwing a huge Pride garden party in my backyard (seriously, I’d made recipes for punch in every colour of the rainbow) but since that’s not happening, we’ve moved the party to a Zoom hang out with my partner and my friends! It's also important for us all to reflect on the history of Pride and how BIPOC (and specifically trans people of colour) are included in the conversations we have today. This year, I've taken the money that I probably would have spent going to Pride events and donating it to Regis Korchinski-Paquet's memorial fund and Reclaim The Block.

Emily Skublics, Digital Marketing Designer

I’m proud of myself for finally getting to a place where I feel happy with who I am and with how I identify. Living in Toronto, finding supportive friends, and working at Knix have been huge pieces of my self-love puzzle.

This was going to be the first year I went to the parade and celebrated pride openly with my queer friends. Although we’re still celebrating together with a bi girls night over FaceTime, we’ve also been spending our socially distanced time reading up on LGBTQ+ history, learning that our queer rights would not be where they are today without the work of Black trans activists like Marsha P. Johnson. I’ve been learning so much on Twitter - if you gave up on Twitter you’re missing out! Not only do I get the news in real time but I also understand the context and impact from community members. I’d recommend dusting off your old account and following incredibly intelligent, queer, Black educators Dr. Sami Schalk and Blair Imani.

Isabella Torchia, Content Specialist

I am so, so proud of being queer! The music I listen to is queer! The shows I watch are queer! The people I follow on social media are queer! My friends are queer! Even the content I help create at Knix is queer too! I’m so proud to help share stories like Sophia’s that highlight all the wonderfulness in our own community.

This Pride I’m donating to the Emergency Release Fund that helps post bail for anyone who identifies as LGBTQ in New York City jails. Prisons are already incredibly dangerous for trans people (specifically Black trans women), and the threat of the pandemic certainly does not helpwith an estimated 1 in 10 people testing positive for COVID-19. This Pride I'm also making sure that my actions and learnings over the last few weeks transcend just this month!

At our core, Knix has always been about loving, respecting and honoring all people. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have work to do when it comes to continuously supporting our Black and Brown communities. Right now, we are dedicating time to think about our privilege, educate ourselves, and find concrete and actionable ways to support each other both within our workplace, and throughout our broader community. Right now, we are dedicating ourselves to a better future. A future where systemic racism and police brutality are abolished. A future where #BlackLivesMatter.

Knix will be committing ourselves to a $100,000 donation in support of Black Lives Matter. We will be donating an immediate $25,000, combined with an ongoing $75,000 of proceeds from our Knix Nudes Collection and Postpartum Collection to support fighting maternal mortality rates within the Black community. We stand in full solidarity with Black Lives Matter for several reasons.

BLM is an all encompassing global organization doing work on the ground in the USA, Canada and the UK. This movement focuses on issues concerning racial injustice, police brutality, criminal justice reform, Black immigration, economic injustice, LGBTQIA+ and human rights, environmental injustice, voting rights, access to education and access to healthcare. Access to healthcare is incredibly important to us at Knix, especially in relation to prenatal and postpartum care.

According to the New York Times,The United States is one of only 13 countries in the world where the rate of maternal mortality — the death of a woman related to pregnancy or childbirth up to a year after the end of pregnancy — is now worse than it was 25 years ago.” Not only is that stat harrowing, but the CDC reports that black women are 3-4 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. This is unacceptable. Black moms matter. Black kids matter. Black families matter. Black lives matter.

More

]]>
Earlier this Spring, Team Knix was all set to board a plane to beautifully sunny Tulum, Mexico. The reason for the getaway? Not only was it to escape a relentlessly chilly Toronto, but to feature our new Swim Collection in a very special photoshoot on the picture-perfect beaches of Tulum.

So we packed our bags, stocked up on sunscreen, and partnered with our good friend Sarah Nicole Landry (@thebirdspapaya) to put out a casting call to our customers. After all, who needs professional swimsuit models when your customers are as stunning as ours are!

11,000 women from all over the world submitted a number that still floors us. A big thank you to all who shared their stories with us. Team Knix is in constant awe of our amazing and inspiring community.

But just as soon as we packed our suitcases, we had to unpack them. With the world turning upside down, travel quickly became out of the question. So we turned to our customers once again. If we couldn’t bring them to Tulum, we’d bring Tulum to them.

We sent our new Swim Collection to 25 members of our Knix community so they could model for us as they #StayHome. They all look amazing, and we can’t wait for you to meet them over the next few weeks on @Knixwear.

When designing the Swim Collection, we took special care in using materials that not only have UPF 50+ UV protection, but materials that are also chlorine, salt water and fade resistant too. We also wanted to make sure that everyone would be able to splash around in them with sizes ranging from S-XXL+ and cups fitting from A-G.

While a vacay to Mexico may be out of reach this year, here’s to a safe summer full of running through the sprinkler, splashing in the kiddie pool and tanning in the backyard with a good book (we recommend a strong margarita too!).

Introducing Knix Swim 2020,
a collection that empowers everyone to be a swimsuit model.

]]>
The world is always a better place when we look out for each other. In scary and uncertain times, it’s always worth it to not only look for the helpers, but be one too.

This was our goal when Knix launched our campaign to facilitate and deliver Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to frontline healthcare workers. With the help of our community, the campaign raised over $150,000 in just under 2 weeks. We will never be able to thank you enough. Because of you, we’ve been able to purchase and start distributing over 200,000 units of certified masks and gloves to hospitals and clinics across Canada.

On top of your donations, we are so excited that the campaign’s scope widened with a $100,000 pledge from the Robert Kerr Foundation a Toronto-based foundation committed to addressing the basic and urgent needs to improve the lives of children and the homeless. They’ve also committed to matching every dollar Knix raises, for up to a total of $100,000. We are so thankful for their contribution, which will help support the need for PPE in Toronto homeless shelters, drop-in centres and agencies.

While we’ll continue sending PPE to healthcare workers on the frontlines (over 225 hospitals have filled out our confidential request form), these donations from the Robert Kerr Foundation will specifically help an extremely at-risk population. We spoke with Bri Trypuc, the Executive Director of the foundation, to learn more about their crucial need for PPE:

“People who experience homelessness are a vulnerable group. They live in environments conducive to infectious diseases, have exposed immune systems from underlying health conditions and are often transient, making it difficult to prevent transmission. We are deeply concerned about infection rates and mortality among our vulnerable populations and of the frontline staff working tirelessly, at tremendous risk, to serve them”

If you’d like to help us donate PPE to frontline healthcare workers, please check out and share our campaign here

If you are a hospital, clinic or a lab that needs extra protective equipment, we will do our best to help. We are accepting requests through a confidential form that you can access here.

All month long we’ll be sharing other amazing initiatives from people in our Knix community- small things you can do to help others while you #StayHome. Are you doing anything to support your neighbourhood, friends and family? Send us a DM @Knixwear, we’d love to share your amazing stories.

We are so proud and grateful for you and the supportive community we’ve built together. Stay safe, stay home, and stay connected to your loved ones. We got this.

]]>
Last week Knix Founder and CEO Joanna Griffiths received a message from her brother, a doctor in Hamilton, Ontario. The hospital that Dr. Chris Griffiths was working at was already low on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). With an uncertain road ahead, masks, gowns and gloves for frontline workers were quickly running scarce a scary reality for many hospitals and healthcare institutions around the world fighting against COVID-19.

Immediately, Knix launched a GoFundMe campaign to help purchase and distribute PPE to frontline workers. The aim: to help bridge inventory gaps until larger government programs are put in place. Our initial goal was $50,000. Within 3 days, the campaign surpassed $80,000 in donations.

We are absolutely overwhelmed by your response. Thank you.

Your donations have gone towards purchasing 50,000 masks and 50,000 gloves for 50 different hospital partners who have submitted requests for equipment. We’ve already shipped out two donations so far a shipment of N95 masks to a major hospital, and the other (gloves) to a non-profit that provides housing and healthcare to members of our community that are HIV positive.

But we still have a lot more work to do. We’ll continue to accept donations and upping the campaign goal as long as we have access and are able to distribute supplies.

If you’d like to help us donate PPE to frontline healthcare workers, please check out and share our campaign here

If you are a hospital, clinic or a lab that needs extra protective equipment, we will do our best to help. We are accepting requests through a confidential form that you can access here.

Right now, Knix is prioritizing based on needs and shipping based on urgency. We’ll do this until we run out or the hospitals’ supply base becomes more stable. From there, we’ll transition to shipping to non-profits, shelters and hospices.

Joanna said it best: “This is a point in time that we will all look back on and ask ourselves if we did everything we could to help. Our PPE campaign is our way of saying thank you to all of the frontline workers that are tirelessly working day and night to fight COVID-19. To them we say, you are not alone in this fight. We thank you and we support you.”

We also checked in with Dr. Griffiths a few days after the campaign went live,

“It’s hard to express how grateful the medical community is for your donations. The shortage of PPE at hospitals and clinics across the country is real and the need is critical. None of us got into this line of work to deliver poor care, stay home or avoid contagious patients; in fact for many, this is exactly why we chose healthcare. It is a privilege to care for the sick, no matter the cause. But as times continue to get worse, we need help from those who are not in the hospital. We need Canadians at home to continue to support those whose jobs put them at risk. With your leadership, empathy, and donations, no matter how big or how small, you too are being heroes in this time.”

We are so proud and grateful for you and the supportive community we’ve built together. Stay safe, stay home, and stay connected to your loved ones. We got this.

More

]]>
For the next little while, we’ll all be spending a lot of time at home. Some of us will take up baking, others will work on 1000-piece puzzles. We’ll watch a ton of movies, rewatch our favorite shows, and write journal entries. Some of us will spend time homeschooling our kids, watching over our parents and working from home. We’ll video chat with friends and family, and play games and host dinners virtually. And we’ll wash our hands! Over and over and over (and over) again!

While we’re all a little landlocked at home, it’s important to put energy into things that make us feel good. At Knix, we feel good when we’re comfortable (and confident!) with what we’re wearing. Which is why we’re so excited to launch our dreamy new Lounge Collection. Meet the new official lounging uniform of 2020.

THE ROBE

What is it? A robe for all seasons! A textured waffle knit, the new relaxed fitting Knix Robe is both light and super cozy. Oversized pockets were added to house all your favorite lounging accessories. Extra cookies for family movie time? Check. Your entire nail polish collection that you’re hauling to the couch so you can give yourself a manicure while watching The Office? Check.

How we recommend you wear it: Put it on. Apply facemask. Twist your hair up in a towel. Pretend you’re at a spa. Log into your 9 AM Zoom meeting.

THE LOUNGE PANT

What are they? The most comfortable pair of pants you’ll ever own. Are they joggers? Yup. Are they PJs? Sure! Are they sweat pants? Why not! Are they being worn for the 8th day straight by everyone on Team Knix? Absolutely. Made from super soft and luxe modal fabric, these lounge pants can do it all. Plus, they now come in a gorgeous new color, Violet Dusk the perfect shade for Spring time lounging.

How we recommend wearing them:

 • Pair with sneakers and a jean jacket for a walk around the park
 • Pair with a sports bra for living room yoga
 • Pair with your old university hoodie for your virtual wine + paint night hosted by a friend who has absolutely zero experience painting (but lots of experience wine-ing)

THE SLEEP SET

What is it? A matching shirt and sleep short set for the sweetest dreams ever. Gone are the days of old concert tees and your ex-boyfriend’s pair of boxers as your sleepwear. Hold them close to you, thank them for their service and then TOSS THEM INTO THE YARD (and by that we mean, please donate them or reuse the fabric!). It’s time for a PJ set to actually bring you joy. Made from super soft modal fabric and available in a beautiful new Orchid shade, it’ll be hard to change out of them in the morning!

How we recommend wearing them: After taking a 1 hour bath (popcorn as bath snack is optional but recommended), put these on. March to your bed. Close your eyes and drift off thinking about Jason Mamoa. We’ll see you in the morning!

Check out the full Lounge Collection here!

]]>
“Can you check my butt?”

“When I stand up, can you check the back of my jeans real quick?”

“Can you see anything when I turn around?”

Do these questions sound familiar? An unspoken rule of Girl Code, double checking to see if your friend leaked on her period is part of the whole… thing. When they tell you about cramps, bloating and moodiness, they leave out the whole “at some point or another you WILL get blood on your pants, chair or sheets” (or, all of those at once). It’s been part of the deal for so long, we’ve come to accept it as just another facet of life as a menstruator.

But there’s no reason we have to settle for this anxiety-inducing, confidence-diminishing, clothes-staining reality.

Back in 2013, Joanna Griffiths invented a line of underwear designed to help women deal with life’s “little leaks”. Extra absorbent and odor-proof, these Leakproof Underwear are perfect for all kinds of liquids— period overflow, light bladder leakage, and sweat. Knix has spent years perfecting them as your go-to pair of functional undies, allowing people all over the world to feel confident and secure during the time of the month.

Introducing Knixy Lace Leakproof Underwear

We love our original leakproof underwear so much that we’re super excited for their next evolution. Introducing Knixy Lace Leakproof Underwear— the first leakproof undies that are equal parts functional and sexy.

The same absorbent technology as the Knix period underwear you know and love, the Lace Collection also absorbs up to two tampons worth of liquid, is moisture wicking, antimicrobial and odor-proof. Want to know how it works? Check out our post here.

Regardless of whether you're dressing up for yourself or someone else, the Lace Collection was designed to have you feeling extra confident, supported and simply, hot. You’ll be feelin’ yourself when you put these on... literally. The ultra soft and material is so lightweight and stretchy, you won’t be able to keep your hands off.

Here are some scenarios in which you should wear Lace Leakproof Underwear:

 • On a cute date that you think Aunt Flo might crash
 • During your monthly self-care period routine (bath, facemask, Lace Underwear, The Bachelor ☑️)
 • Spring cleaning your house with no pants on
 • Taking cute selfies to remind yourself you are THAT girl, no matter how your PMS tears you down

Don't need Leakproof underwear? We got you! Our Lace Collection is also available as our regular Essential Underwear. This means that although they aren’t extra absorbent, they’re still moisture wicking and odor-proof. Both the Leakproof and Essential Lace Underwear come in 3 different styles- Thong, Bikini and High Rise, so you can choose what makes you feel the most confident 🙏

Nothing gets us more excited at Knix than launching a new product. Whether it’s a bra, a new cut of undies, or something completely secret (shh!), the team spends months working with our brilliant designers, helping to wear-test everything until they’re perfect. So by the time launch day comes around, we’re all giddy for the rest of the world to finally try out our favorites.

To celebrate the launch of the new LuxeLift Pullover Bra, we headed over to our Toronto store with a crew of #1 fans from Knix HQ. Read on to learn more about what makes Team Knix feel luxurious, and why the LuxeLift Pullover Bra gets their stamp of approval.

Kate: Digital Merchandising Lead & Best Friend to Andie

Andie: HR Generalist & Best Friend to Kate

K: I've found myself reaching for this bra almost every time I get dressed in the morning. It makes my boobs look great.

I feel most luxurious when I have a fresh manicure. I don't have an extensive skincare or makeup routine, but Manicures are my weakness. They make every outfit just a little bit better!

A: This bra is hard to describe because it was designed to disappear under clothes. How do you describe something so comfortable that it feels like you're not even wearing a bra? It’s smoothing and seamless and everything I've ever wanted!

I feel most luxurious when I take a night to pamper myself at home. Hair washed, legs shaved, face mask on. Ahhhh 😌

Melissa: Office Manager & Master Scheduler

I love this bra! I'm a huge fan of how comfortable and supportive our LuxeLift Tank and Bodysuit are, so when I found out we were getting that same seamless support in the form of a bra I was so excited. Getting into my right size was easy and it’s a new staple in my bra drawer!

Luxury to me is all about the little things. Remembering to pay my phone bill on time, splurging on a monthly transit pass, and ordering in some sushi on a Friday night. Oh, and wearing a matching bra and panty set is super luxurious to me.

Lindsay: Director of Partnerships & Workout Class Guru

It's comfortable and super versatile, so you can wear it from the office, to yoga… even to sleep if you want! I love the way this bra makes me feel. Confident, strong, ready to move and ready for my day.

The thing that makes me feel most luxurious is a great moisturizing night time face cream!

Tara: Director of E-Commerce & Best Dog Mom Ever

My favourite thing about this bra is that it's hardware-free. If you foam roll, do yoga, have an active career or you’re someone who enjoys feeling supported while you sleep, a hardware free bra will change your life. It's true!

What makes me feel LUXE are small indulgences: eating fancy cheese while binging some Netflix, ordering the most expensive cocktail on the menu, or spending a few nights at a resort after a 3 week backpacking trip.

Olivia: Video Producer & Professional Dragon Boater (for real!)

I couldn't be more excited about this bra. It comes in our biggest size range yet, from an XS - XXXL+ which is great for me because I'm wearing an XS! I love how comfortable and easy it is to size. It's pretty foolproof.

I always feel luxurious when I wear bold lipstick! Makeup is definitely out of my comfort zone, so anytime I dress up and try a new shade I immediately become more confident.

Shannon: Manager of Customer Experience & Professional Stunt Woman (also for real!)

I couldn't be more excited about this bra, whether you're wearing it under a baggy sweatshirts or a form- fitting top, it's comfortable, seamless and supportive all in one. It has been a favourite of mine since we were first asked to wear-test it here at our office a few months back. I'm so excited that it's out in the world.

I 100% feel the most luxurious when I am having a bath with a glass of red wine, popcorn and a face mask

What comes to mind when you think of the word luxurious? A steaming bath loaded with essential oils? An expensive glass of champagne? Maybe a few layered gold chains draping around your neck? No matter what your imagination conjured up, we’re guessing that the word luxurious didn’t immediately have you thinking of your everyday bra.

Introducing LuxeLift by Knix—a collection featuring our NEW LuxeLift Pullover Bra, the LuxeLift Evolution Tank, and the LuxeLift Every Bodysuit. This trio is not only supportive, versatile and comfortable, but they’ll make you feel beyond luxurious. Like, taking a steaming hot bath while sipping $90 champagne wearing gold chains kind of luxurious. Read on to learn more about the collection and tips on how to style.

LuxeLift Pullover Bra

What is it:

The newest innovation from Knix. It’s a wireless bra that’s designed to disappear under clothes. It’s seamless and hardware-free, so it may come as a surprise that it also lifts and supports your boobs. *Record Scratch*. Sorry, what? How? There’s built in support in the band, which mimics the tension that you’d get in a typical wire bra with a back-closure. The LuxeLift Pullover Bra also has reinforced strap stabilizers that are engineered to pull you up. But wait, there’s more. Sizing is available starting from a 30A up to a 42G. So you can wear it. And your best friend. And your coworker. And your mom too.

How & Where to Wear it:

Anywhere. Anytime. Under anything. The smoothing and seamless fabric makes it the perfect bra to wear under all your outfits. That tight black turtleneck you’ve been trying to incorporate into your everyday look? Yup. Your go-to-weekend-kind-of-bleached-old-university hoodie? That too. It doesn’t matter what look you chose to serve, you’ll be feeling luxe no matter what.

LuxeLift Evolution Tank

What is it:

Do you ever feel like just… not wearing a bra? We feel you. We got you. Which is why we designed The LuxeLift Evo Tank. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s a Knix favorite. This tank was designed with a wireless built-in bra, so it’ll be your first (and most loved) layer. It’s super smoothing, seamless, and supportive. Go bra-less! It’s 2020 after all!

How & Where to Wear it:

We told you it’s a Knix favorite right? Here’s some tips on how to wear it from our biggest Tank fans ever:

“I'm a teacher and I need reliable, all-day wear that moves with me and my Tanks have never let me down! They are my go-to for an everyday support layer, and even in the warmer months I'm cool as a cucumber” - Colleen

“I wear this as my bra, because I really dislike the way traditional bras pull on my post surgery shoulder!” - Patricia C

The perfect Tank for layering, wear it alone or underneath a sweater or blazer. They’re also great if a traditional bra with a clasp doesn’t work for you, like Patricia. Like the Pullover bra, it’s seamless and incredibly smoothing, which makes it (and you) look absolutely effortless and luxurious. You’ll tank us later.

LuxeLift Every Bodysuit

What is it:

The versatile crown on top of the LuxeLift Collection, this is a bodysuit that feels as good as it looks. The built-in bra has the same wireless support as the Pullover Bra and Evo Tank, and it hugs and smooths your body without being restrictive. The best part? When you’re wearing it, there’s no need to completely de-robe when you have to go to the bathroom. With bottom closures, clasps make it a breeze to take on and off. What makes the LuxeLift Every Bodysuit extra luxurious is that both the bottom clasps and straps can be adjusted for your perfect fit. A Bodysuit that’s comfortable and fits well? You heard it hear first 🙌

How & Where to Wear it:

The Every Bodysuit is also a Knix base-layer favorite. We reached out to one of our customers Ina, who owns 8 of them (one for everyday of the week plus a backup, duh!) why she loves them:

“I LOVE these bodysuits. Super comfortable in all seasons, smoothing without being constricting, comfy crotch that stays put, no VPL. Much easier to grab and go than a bra/undies/cami trio with coverage that doesn’t slide around. Liberation from painful bra straps and underwires (these straps are nice and wide plus much less breast weight is pulling down)... I own eight, just in case laundry day is delayed. That good.”

Thanks Ina! Our pal Kelly also owns a few, so we checked in with her to hear how she wears her Bodysuits:

“I have a couple of dresses that were too clingy with just undies. I needed something that would allow the fabric to slide around freely, but i didn't want a slip. These are just what I needed”

It’s the perfect smoothing piece for layering, and cute enough to wear solo underneath jeans or a skirt on a hot day. Your closet will thank you.

When we asked women to describe a typical bra buying experience, their responses all seemed to reflect problems within the intimates industry that have been bubbling for years.

Intimidating. Awkward. Discouraging. Overwhelming. Sensitive. Uncomfortable.

Words better suited for a dentist appointment or oil change, these descriptors for bra and underwear shopping simply had to go. So when the time came for Knix to break ground on two brick and mortar stores, the mission was simple. Founder and CEO Joanna Griffiths said it best when she wrote, “We wanted to create an environment where women can feel truly comfortable in their skin and celebrate their bodies exactly as they are”.

This Fall, Knix said bonjour to two Canadian storefronts— one in Vancouver (2076 W 4th Avenue) and the second in our hometown of Toronto (630 Queen Street West). Designed by local Toronto interior styling brand Salad Days, both spaces honour the soft curves and swerves of different bodies.

Using as few straight lines in the architecture as possible, arches not only line the walls, but also welcome you to fitting rooms meant to showcase the best thing in the store: you.

Rounded mirrors in the change rooms allow you to celebrate yourself, while rounded sofas outside allow your waiting friends (or your patient partner, ha!) to celebrate you. The goal of our fitting area? To create an encouraging space where you can step out from behind the curtain and embrace how you feel. We love when you show off.

With there being a shortage of “wings” in-store (and proudly so), we enlisted Toronto artist Leia Bryans to design and paint murals as centrepieces for both locations. Minimal yet triumphant and warm, they’re reflections of the Knix mission of redefining intimates by way of positively redefining the relationship we have with our bodies.

Whether you come by with your best friends for a “girl’s day” or you come solo for a “self-care day”, we’re excited to meet you. Get fitted by someone at Team Knix, try on all your favourites, and discover new ones. See you soon!

Not in Toronto or Vancouver? We’re also available in Nordstrom all across Canada. Not in Canada? Drop us a DM and let us know where we should pop up next.

https://checkout.knix.com/blogs/knix-blog/a-message-from-team-knix 2019-09-12T13:11:00-04:00 2021-03-30T15:43:14-04:00 From Team Knix Joanna Griffiths At Knix we’ve built our brand by being honest, open and vulnerable. It’s these characteristics that have enabled us to build trust with our customers and community. Trust, especially in regards to women’s bodies, is something that we don’t take lightly. Part of being honest is admitting when you made a mistake, and recently we did just that. We made a mistake that triggered a very intense and difficult topic for some people. For this we are extremely sorry. You deserve an explanation.

You may have noticed some rather strange ads coming from our Facebook account recently and we wanted to share some context.

A few weeks ago we ran an internal team building event in which everyone in the company had 60 minutes to come up with an ad concept. It’s called an Ad Hack-a-Thon. The goal was to collaborate creatively, all while encouraging the concept that everyone on Team Knix is welcome to contribute. After all, a good idea can come from anywhere.

The output of the exercise was about 60 different ads. As I’m sure you can imagine, the ads all varied in quality and in content (Team Knix consists of HR, accountants, web developers, supply chain, clothing designers...you get the idea). We agreed to put a small budget behind some of these ads (certainly not all of them) and see what would happen.

Fast forward a few weeks later, and through an internal miscommunication, all 60 of the ads went live including one ad that unfortunately not only caught people off guard (what were they thinking?) but for some, triggered an association with sexual assault. We are so very sorry.

The concept behind the ad in question was "what happens in leak proof, stays in leak proof"....(pee, sweat, blood etc) with a parody on Las Vegas. I can promise you there was no intention to connect our product and brand with sexual assault and violence and that no one within our company would make light of something so serious. For a variety of other reasons (like it's a photo of our product in a gutter....next to a cigarette butt and garbage), this particular image was never meant to be shared.

In fact, a lot of them were not meant to be shared.

Somewhere out there people saw a metal construction support beam with a sports bra on it:

Others saw ketchup, mustard and a variety of liquids being poured into underwear:

Some saw side-by-side absorbency tests:

Or a bra at a firehouse down the street:

But none of this matters. The only thing that matters is that some people saw an ad that triggered memories and feelings of being unsafe, or worse, abused.

We have a lot to learn from this mistake and please believe us when we say that the learning and recourse is well underway. In the interim, all we can do is provide context and say that we are sorry. 15,000 people were served the ad and as such we will be donating $15,000 worth of underwear to CAMH which provides support, counseling and resources for women all across Toronto. We are proud to have a long history of working with CAMH, and will also be donating $5 for every person that visits our Life After Birth Gallery in Toronto next week.

We are so very sorry, and we hope that this context is helpful.

Thank you for reading,

Joanna and the rest of Team Knix

The fairy lights are twinkling, the hot dogs are prepped to grill, and you made enough Sangria to satisfy the entire neighbourhood. You’re almost set for your big summer BBQ. Almost.

We already know that Knix is a great summer companion. But now that outdoor party season is in full swing, we’re hearing from plenty of customers who are putting their Knix underwear on the BBQ invite list. Regardless if you need to stay cool by the hot grill, or looking to stay HOT when the sun sets, we’ve got your back!

Here are some of our BBQ essentials, and why you’ll be reaching for them before you hit the patio.

Party Prepping 🎉

BBQ’s aren’t all fun and games and hamburgers and margaritas. They’re hard work too! While you’re running around putting finishing touches on your Pinterest worthy table, the temperature is doing nothing but CLIMBING. Instead of breaking a sweat (Is there enough ice? What if I don’t make enough food?? Is it going to RAIN???), arm yourself with a pair of our Essential Underwear. They’re moisture-wicking and quick drying, so they’ll keep you comfy, fresh and cool even if you feel like you’re overheating.

More Time with Friends 👯‍♀️

If your big backyard blowout happens to coincide with your monthly blowout (if you know what I mean), Leakproof Underwear are an absolute must. They’re super absorbent, so you’ll have a stress-free and dry period no matter what. This means you can focus on having a great time with your guests instead of worrying about leaks or running to the bathroom. Also, go on, wear your white jeans! Labour Day is right around the corner!

Infinite Outfit Options 🔥

Is there anything worse than wearing a dress on a hot day and unsticking your legs from whatever seat you’re sitting on? Ouch. Child-birth may be #1 in the pain department, but the “Thigh Rip” may be a veeeery close 2nd. But not with our Thigh Saver! If you’re shying away from wearing a cute dress to your BBQ because of chafing, sweat, or other unfortunate seat scenarios, look no further. Throw a pair on under a dress or skirt and be prepared for your guests to be wowed by your perfect summer look.

Happy Pride! This month, you’ll be seeing the rainbow flag everywhere you look. Created by activist Gilbert Baker, the flag is symbolic of solidarity, power, community and queer culture. But did you know Baker also assigned each colorful stripe of the rainbow a meaning? Join us as we chat with LGBTQ+ folks in our own Knix community, all while marching through all the colors! Check out Red and Orange here.

Next up is Yellow. Yellow symbolizes the sun, so we chatted with one of the brightest lights in Toronto, Aisha Fairclough. Co-founder of Body Confidence Canada and founder of Representation Matters, Aisha is a body image advocate dedicated to producing and creating diverse content.

How are you celebrating Pride this month?

This month I'll be celebrating Pride with my partner and friends. We'll be volunteering, attending community events, panels, screenings and marches. Pride is about community and I'm a proud member of the community.

How do you celebrate all year round?

Celebrating pride all year long means living my authentic truth and being me. I don't take for granted the privilege of being able to be "out". There are many people that can't live their authentic truth because of fear of violence, death, homelessness or abandonment.

Body positivity is a focus on all your platforms, can you speak to how Pride intersects with that?

Body positivity isn't just about size - it's about race, gender, sexuality, ability and true inclusion. Body positivity is also about using your voice to advocate for yourself and others.

For many of us, Pride is a time where we can celebrate our diverse gender identities and gender expressions. While Pride is a party and a celebration, pride is also a protest. It's a time to reflect on the progress that we have made and also a time to think about how far we need to go for true equity and inclusion. Being able to express who you are is part of body confidence.

Some days it’s hard to be positive about anything! Body positive included. How do you stay positive on a day to day basis? Any tips?

We are more than one body part, we are more than our arms, more that our hips. We are an entire package. We all have our good and bad days and sometimes those days have nothing to do with our body. It’s ok to have bad days, but we must remember what our body does for us! It’s also important to surround yourself with people that don't routinely participate in negative self talk.

What are your hopes for the fashion industry in terms of intersectional representation?

My hopes for the fashion industry is that they invest not only in models in front of the camera but they also foster, embrace and work with diverse talent behind the camera. It’s not enough to hire one plus model, one black model, one trans model and so on. Representation Matters and we must continue to see the world that we all live in.

Next up is Orange. Orange symbolizes healing, so we sat down with stylist Dāsha Guyton of @WindyCityWardrobe to talk about self-love, body positivity and how it allllll intersects with Pride.

How are you celebrating Pride this month?

I kicked off Pride with the LGBTQ edition of Strip Joker at the Steppenwolf. If you missed it, no worries, you can still catch this hilarious standup show at Mary's Attic. I'll also be attending a POSE watch party and the Pride South Side Festival.

How do you celebrate all year round?

I spend quality time with my local chosen family as often as possible and collaborate with Queer creatives in photography, design, and event planning.

As a stylist, I have to ask: What’s your Pride look this year?

My first Pride look of the month involved a tribal print mix swimsuit and rainbow beach chairs. For more Pride outfit inspiration come hang out with me on Instagram @WindyCityWardrobe

What inspired you to start your blog, Windy City Wardrobe?

Five years ago, my wife and I left everything and everyone we ever knew in Oklahoma and moved to Chicago. To keep some sense of normalcy in a new city, I started my days with coffee and breakfast at Starbucks but the barista’s refused to take my order before getting answers to their questions about my hair, clothes, and makeup. Since I’m a but first coffee kind of girl, Windy City Wardrobe was created as a solution to this problem. Now I’m able to hand people a business card instead of having my coffee held hostage. What started as an outfit of the day blog, quickly grew into a styling business as well as a platform for body positivity and self-love.

There are tons of people you can go to for wardrobe styling, but they don’t have my background in self-love and body positivity. Most stylists work with brands that only hire sample size models so they lack empathy and experience dressing larger bodies. I’m known for helping people with special events and transitions in life that require a new wardrobe.

Body positivity is a focus on all your platforms, can you speak to how Pride intersects with that?

Body positivity intersects with pride in the sense of pride being an affirmation of all that you uniquely are. We're all learning to love our body but this struggle comes with extra layers within the LGBTQ community. Once you've explored your sexuality and accept who you are, you feel the need to show the world who you are without having to speak.

Unfortunately, who you are doesn't always align with how your family sees you. But there's power in disregarding what family and mainstream media say you should look like and act like. Coming out forces you to decide how and if you'll express gender and orientation through clothes and after doing all that grueling work you have a lot to be proud of.

What are your hopes for the fashion industry in terms of representation?

I hope to see more diversity rather than tokenism. I don't think this can happen organically until companies focus on being inclusive in their hiring practices from the top down. If you have a staff that's reflective of the community they will speak up at meetings and casting calls. Things are getting better but certainly not fast enough because I still show up for shoots and I'm the only black, brown, or fat person. Keeping my fingers crossed for more LGBTQ representation, people covered in tattoos, using assistive devices, breastfeeding their babies, etc. I would just love to see people captured in real life situations using branded products.

Finally, if could style one drag queen, who would you pick?

Without a doubt Miss Vanessa Vanjie Mateo! She's got the moves, her face is beat and she has personality for days, but you can't snatch the crown without a fierce wardrobe and Mama Ru isn't here for the bodysuits.

Thanks Dāsha! Check back throughout June to meet other Proud members of the Knix community.
